FT. CAMPBELL, Ky. -

Tennessee Titans receiver Kenny Britt was arrested early Friday morning at Ft. Campbell and charged with DUI.

Bob Jenkins, spokesperson for the military base, said Britt was taken into custody around 3:30 a.m. outside Gate 4 after he failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a breathalyzer.

His vehicle was impounded at the post after he was released by military police on his own recognizance.

Britt will appear before a federal magistrate on the post in the coming weeks on one count each of DUI and violation of the implied consent law.

In a statement, the Titans said, "We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering more facts."

One Fort Campbell soldier who said he was a Titans fan wondered what Britt was doing in the area.

"What is this guy doing?" asked Spc. Dan Bailey. "He's a great receiver, why can't he just be a great receiver."

Fort Campbell said it could not confirm initial reports about passengers in Britt's car.

Britt has been in trouble with the law before.

Earlier this year, the former first round pick pleaded guilty to a downgraded charge stemming from a June 2011 arrest in New Jersey when police accused Britt of carrying a marijuana cigar.

He's had several other incidents involving police since 2009.
