NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
The University of Tennessee Extension program is offering a new Web site full of resources and information to help farmers and ranchers survive during a drought.
"It's just all put together in one place so they can find what they need in just a few clicks to try to make them a little more nimble in making their decisions and have the power of information all in one spot," Dr. Justin Rhinehart, UT Extension beef cattle specialist said.
On Tuesday, the UT Extension program hosted a meeting to discuss several issues farmers and ranchers are facing due to recent drought like conditions.
Cattle ranchers like Jimmy Duke attended the meeting to see what help he could receive.
"The grass has died and I don't know when it will come back. Just have to hope the rain will bring back enough hay to feed them [cows] through the winter and if it doesn't I'll have to try and go somewhere to find it [hay] and it will be expensive," Duke explained.
The UT Extension is set to host another meeting for farmers and ranchers on Thursday at the Wilson County Fairgrounds from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
