MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -
A longtime Murfreesboro business owner and jeweler passed away Tuesday at the age of 96, according to a report in the Daily News Journal.
James Herschel Mullins, a Rutherford County native, was the founder of Mullins Jewelry which was located on the city's Public Square for more than 70 years.
Mullins founded the jewelry store on March 1, 1938.
Trained as a watch maker, Mullins expanded his business into a full-service jewelry store. The store remained open with the help of family members until January 2010.
Visitation will be held at Woodfin Funeral Chapel on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m.
Mullins was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Alsup Mullins, as well as his parents Charles Herbert and Ollie Haithcook Mullins.
He is survived by his three sons, grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
