NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A man was charged with arson after fire officials said he set his friend's porch on fire following an argument.

Emergency crews responded to the blaze shortly after 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on Toney Drive near Whites Creek Pike.

Officials told Nashville's News 2 Alton Wyatt intentionally started the fire after he got into an argument with the homeowner.

The fire that began on the back porch was quickly extinguished before spreading.

The people inside the home at the time of the fire were able to get outside and did not receive any injuries.

The home suffered minimal damage.

Authorities initially called the blaze suspicious and started an investigation.

The homeowner said he heard something suspicious outside Monday night and discovered that his porch was on fire when he went outside to investigate.

He also noticed Wyatt running from the scene.

The residents were able to return home after the fire was extinguished.
