Animal control director fired after audit reveals missing funds

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

A state audit led to the firing of Montgomery County Director of Animal Control Karen Josephson on Monday.

Officials reported the audit uncovered cash management irregularities that were significant enough to warrant immediate action.

"The records were in such disarray that the cash could not be accounted for," county spokesperson Elizabeth Black told the Leaf Chronicle.

Black added there is no insinuation that fraud caused the shortage.

The audit is ongoing.

Montgomery County will appoint an interim director.

Josephson was hired last fall after former director David Sleby was fired.

No additional information was released.
