A Middle Tennessee man who lost 300 pounds by following an intense workout program is now helping others shed unwanted pounds.

Richard Neal credits his success to the P90X program, which is a home workout regime, began by Tony Horton nearly a decade ago.

According to the program's Web site, P90X focuses on advanced training technique called Muscle Confusion.

Before losing the weight, Neal weighed in at more than 430 pounds.

"My doctor told me, 'Richard you're not going to live. You're not going to see your 30th birthday,'" he recalled. "Knowing I wasn't going to see my 30th birthday, knowing I wasn't able to have any kids because of me being obese, I gave up on life."

Neal told Nashville's News 2 because he was too large to weigh himself on a bathroom scale he had to go to the scrap yard to be weighed.

"My scales just kept saying 'Error,'" he said.

Upon his completion of the P90X program, which he calls brutal, Neal now weighs 187 pounds.

Since his transformation was so remarkable, Beachbody, the company that produces the workout videos named Neal the grand champion of a national workout challenge and awarded him with a $100,000 check.

Neal has since been able to quit his job and become a full-time coach for others looking to lose extra pounds.

"I'm debt free and now I'm able to coach full time," he told Nashville's News 2.

Neal is among hundreds of other Beachbody coaches nationwide that send out daily reminders and encouragement to participants of the program.

"[I want to] try to help somebody.  Help them change their life.  It's the most fulfilling thing in the world," he said.

In addition to helping others, Neal also enjoys spending time with his three-month-old son.
