Clarksville man killed after firearm discharges

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

A 28-year-old Clarksville man died Saturday evening after a firearm inadvertently discharged, striking him in the torso.

Police said their preliminary investigation indicates Gregory Premus and a friend were handling a loaded handgun in an apartment on South Third Street when the weapon fired around 5:30 p.m.

Premus was hit by the bullet and transported to Gateway Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be conducted.
 
No charges were immediately filed although the investigation is ongoing.
