NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The 180 animals that have been sheltered at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds in recent weeks after two separate rescues will be placed in foster care beginning Saturday.

Between the two rescues, which occurred on July 3 in Wilson County and July 9 in White County, the Animal Rescue Corps has been providing care to the animals which include dogs, cats, chickens, fish, rabbits and turtles, among others.

Officials with the non-profit organization said Agape Animal Rescue will pick up the first group of dogs around 10 a.m.

All of the rescued cats have been split between the Nashville Cat Rescue and New Leash on Life.

Groups, including Country K-9 Rescue, will pick up the remaining dogs, chickens, goat, and donkey in upcoming days.

"We encourage all compassionate Tennesseans to apply to become a foster parent through one of our placement partners," said ARC President Scotlund Haisley.

Noah's Ark Society and Snooty Giggles Dog Rescue are also fostering some of the animals.

ARC officials said they hope to close the emergency shelter at the fairgrounds by the end of next week.
