NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
The record heat may be over for now, but it has left behind extremely dry conditions that have left many homeowners' shrubs, plants and lawns less than desirable.
While the recent rainfall throughout Middle Tennessee is a welcome sight to many, David Bates of Bates Nursery said it is still important to provide proper care and soakings to plants and shrubs.
"If you have shrubs or trees that are well established, they are more likely to come back from something like this rather than something that was just planted," Bates explained.
While the extreme heat has taken a toll on many lawns, Bates said many will come back green after the rainfall.
"The lawns will generally come back and to be sure they have been stressed severely," he said. "Most of them with just a bit of rain are starting to green back up, so lawns are going to recover."
Experts also advise that while the record heat may have damaged annual flowers, a trim, food and water will help bring them back to life.
Many parts of Middle Tennessee are still nearly six inches below normal when it comes to rainfall.
