NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Vanderbilt University's football team unveiled their new uniforms in front of a packed crowd at the Barnes and Noble bookstore on Vanderbilt's campus Wednesday evening.

Head coach James Franklin played the role of runway host while 16 players modeled nine different combinations of new Nike uniforms the team could wear during the upcoming season.

The uniforms feature black, gold and white jerseys and pants and now also include a white helmet.

In addition to their gold helmet, Vanderbilt began wearing a black helmet last season.

Among the changes, "Vanderbilt" will be displayed on the front of the jersey for the first time since 1994, and a gold "anchor" emblem now adorns the front "V" neck of all jerseys.

The gold jersey top features black shoulder coverings, black lettering and black numbers.  Last year, the gold jersey had white numbers.

The Commodores open the 2012 season Thursday, August 30 with a nationally televised game against South Carolina.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Vanderbilt Stadium.
