TSU, UTM offering reduced tuition

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee State University hopes to boost its graduation rate with high-achieving students from out of state. A similar initiative is being offered at University of Tennessee-Martin.

TSU will discount tuition for out-of-state students next semester by 50%, providing they have a 3.0 grade point average.

The Tennessean reported Interim university President Portia Shields expects about 500 students will receive the discounted rate in the fall.

The cost for tuition and fees for 15 credit hours will be about $3,500 per semester - only slightly above the in-state rate.

Returning out-of-state students will automatically receive the discount if they meet the grade requirement.

At the University of Tennessee-Martin, out-of-state students with a 3.5 GPA and an ACT score of at least 25 will pay the in-state tuition rate.
