NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A Nashville man and his landlord faces charges in connection to two north Nashville house fires.

Corey Gaines, 31, was arrested Monday and charged with two felony counts of arson for setting fire to the house located at 1807 14th Avenue North in the early morning hours of May 2, 2012 and to the house at 1820 14th Avenue North on the night of May 7, 2011.

The owner of the properties, Scott Williams, is charged with facilitation of arson for hiring Gaines to set the fire in 2012.

In an interview late last month, Williams, 44, told detectives he hired Gaines to set the fire and paid him $1,000 after the house was burned and he received the insurance check, according to a Metro police affidavit.

For the fire in 2011, Williams told police he gave Gaines five months free rent to set the blaze.

Both homes sustained substantial damage.  A firefighter was burned while battling the blaze this year.

Samples taken from the home at 1820 14th Avenue North came back positive for gasoline.

Gaines was booked into the Metro jail on $80,000 bond.

Williams' was booked and released on $15,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
