After months of debate, the Spring Hill Planning Commission approved a plan for a crematory on Monday night.
The crematory will be located at the Spring Hill Memorial Park and Funeral Home on Main Street.
The controversial crematory was initially turned down last year after residents near the proposed site complained about safety and health issues.
Officials told Nashville's News 2 they had no legal basis for turning down the request.
"Our hands are pretty much tied when it comes to issues of straight zoned pieces of property. That building is allowed in before and that's the decision that we had to make," explained Mayor Mike Dinwiddie.
The site will now be eligible for a building permit.
