CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -
A Clarksville father was arrested Sunday night after his six-year-old daughter fired a handgun left on a TV tray in front of the living room couch.
The child's mother called 911 after receiving a call from Vernon Gress about the incident.
Gress, 26, told responding officers his daughter discharged the gun while he was taking out the trash.
The round struck an exterior wall of the apartment.
A baby was sleeping in another room at the time.
No one was injured.
Gress was charged with child abuse and neglect and booked into the Montgomery County jail on a $1,000 bond.
Both children were picked up at the apartment by their mother.
