NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Power crews were hard at work after Sunday night's thunderstorms. Strong winds and rain brought down trees and power lines and left hundreds without power for a few hours.

Traffic was impacted on Hillsboro Road in Green Hills, just south of Woodmont Boulevard after a tree fell onto a utility pole leaving power lines dangling above the roadway.

When police responded they blocked of the roadway so utility crews could use a chipper to clear the tree and restore the pole.

They had the scene cleared around 6 a.m. but authorities urged drivers to be cautious as crews remained on the scene.

In addition to Green Hills, several residents lost power from the storms including customers with Middle Tennessee Electric and Clarksville Department of Electricity.

Experts predict more trees will fall as the hot and dry weather continues.

The hotter and dryer the temperature is, the dryer and more brittle the trees become. As the trees dry out, their roots shrink.

The more brittle the tree, the more vulnerable they are to wind, making them unstable and easy to topple over.
