NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Roughly 100 dogs are being nursed back to health at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds after being rescued from an extreme case of hoarding at a property in Wilson County.
Rescue volunteers are focusing on enrichment for the animals taken from the hoarding operation which officials say dated back 20 years.
"These dogs were extremely un-socialized, extremely fearful, and have not really known anything except the small rusty pins they were kept in," said Tim Woodward of the Animal Rescue Corporation.
The dogs have been regrouped into the same social packs they were found in.
Officials are also using fans and music to keep the traumatized animals calm.
"When we did that, we saw a lot of activity out of the dogs. They were licking and dogs that had a suppressed appetite got their appetite back so it's been very wonderful," Woodward said.
The organization has already started a placement process for the dogs.
Officials with the animal corporation hope to start moving the animals out of the fairgrounds next week.
