NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt and youth organizations across Nashville are teaming up this summer to improve the health and wellness of local families through the "Veggie Project."

By hosting produce markets in communities without access to fresh fruits and vegetables, the Veggie Project aims to address issues of childhood obesity, family nutrition and food security in  underserved areas often referred to as "food deserts."

The markets are open to everyone in the Nashville community and will continue through the week of July 27.

Market locations and times are:

  • Blakemore Church of the Nazarene, 2800 Belcourt Avenue
    Tuesdays, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Preston Taylor Ministries, 3900 Clifton Street
    Wednesdays, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • J.C. Napier Community Center, 73 Fairfield Avenue
    Thursdays, 11 p.m. to 1 p.m.
