2 men arrested after confrontation over fireworks

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

Clarksville police arrested two men Tuesday night following a confrontation over fireworks.

Matthew Robinson and James Smith were taken into police custody around 8 p.m. and charged with aggravated assault.

According to police, the altercation broke out after Smith confronted 21-year-old Ronald Sumner and his 14-year-old brother about shooting fireworks in the 100 block of Coyote Court.

A witness reported Smith pushed Sumner before the 34-year-old was punched in the face.

At that time, Smith is said to have went to his car and retrieved a handgun from the trunk and pointed it at Sumner, threatening to fire shots.

Robinson is also said to have retrieved a handgun during the confrontation.

Both Smith and Robinson were booked into the Montgomery County jail on a $1,000 bond each.

The juvenile was also issued a citation.
