NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A Mid-State bakery is continuing to gain popularity with pet owners and their beloved animals.
See Spot Eat, located in Berry Hill, first opened its doors for business four years ago after owner Kat Martin got the idea to cater to four-legged customers.
Martin said she originally made special treats for canines that graduated from her classes at Dogs and Kat Training.
"I would make liver brownies and loved doing it and it was really fun and the dogs really, really loved it," she said. "I just decided maybe there needs to be a dog bakery."
Currently See Spot Eat is the only store of its kind in the Nashville area that makes fresh treats, including Pup Tarts, Jimmy Chews and Canine-Olis.
"We don't use any added sugar. We don't use any chemicals, natural preservatives. We just want to be as natural as possible," Martin explained.
The dog bakery owner told Nashville's News 2 despite the recession, her business continues to get better with each passing month.
"People tend to, I think, when times get tough, spoil their animals a little bit more, they will go without so their animals can go with," Martin said.
Martin said there are plans to open additional See Spot Eat locations in the Mid-State in the coming year.
The pet bakery also hopes to begin selling items online in the near future.
