NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Metro police believe the extreme heat in the Nashville area contributed to the death of a 57-year-old homeless man.

Kenneth Carpenter was found deceased around Noon on Sunday inside of a storage unit facility he rented in the 1000 block of Murfreesboro Pike.

Authorities reported friends discovered the door of the storage unit rolled up and Carpenter seated in a chair.

Workers of the storage unit reported Carpenter let himself into the storage lot early Saturday afternoon and was last seen alive by management around 3 p.m.

Police said Carpenter's body temperature was 104 degrees at the scene on Sunday.

A toxicology test is pending.
