SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. -

A 70-year-old Shelbyville woman was killed in a house fire late Saturday night.

The fire broke out at Freida Fuston's home just after 11 p.m.

Fire Marshall Brian Nicholson told Nashville's News 2 when crews arrived on the scene, heavy smoke and flames prevented firefighters from immediately entering the home.

Crews were able to keep the flames from spreading from the home.

Fuston was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said she did not have a smoke detector in her home.

Nicholson said he urges for everyone to have a working smoke detector in their homes. Those who do not have one are encouraged to call their local fire department.

Crews were able to rescue two dogs from the fire. They have been placed in the care of family members.
