Boy, 3, dies in possible drowning, brother injured

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (AP) - Bradley County Sheriff's investigators are probing the death of 3-year-old boy who possibly drowned.

A sheriff's spokesman said Friday that River Bates was pronounced dead at SkyRidge Medical Center on Thursday.

Deputies responding to a call for help found River and his 5-year-old brother, Leland Bates, had been brought to their father's home from another location where the incident occurred because there was no telephone there.

Sheriff's spokesman Bob Gault said Friday that Leland Bates was being treated at T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital in Chattanooga.
