SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. -
Middle Tennessee Education Center partnered with Tyson to host a job fair Friday for the first time in the center's three-year history.
The center, a partnership between Middle Tennessee State University, Motlow State Community College and Bedford County, aims to provide additional higher education opportunities to those who live in the southern part of Middle Tennessee.
Center officials said Friday's job fair provided opportunity for Tyson to find employees and for the center to find new students.
Bill Fletcher is the director of the career development center at MTSU and says the job fair with Tyson is a perfect opportunity to extend their mission.
"Tyson is a Fortune 500 company. I believe ranked No. 96 in the Fortune 500 list and is worldwide so it's a great opportunity to move into a strong organization at a supervisor level and then it also shows a lot of career growth for the candidates," Fletcher told Nashville's News 2.
Tennessee's unemployment rate increased during the month of May to 7.9% but, according to Fletcher, job growth in Middle Tennessee is on the upswing for college grads.
He said, "Although we are getting mixed messages on the national level on growth and economy, the job market here in the Middle Tennessee region is definitely rebounding for the college graduate."
Tyson is looking for entry supervisor positions. Interested applicants can apply online.
Middle Tennessee Education Center is located at 200 Dover Street in Shelbyville.
