Neighbors rally to renovate Wilson County fire station

MT. JULIET, Tenn. -

Wilson County Fire Station 3 is getting a new look.

The station, located on East Hill Street behind city hall in Mt. Juliet, is old and in great need of repair.

A couple of women who live in the Del Webb at Lake Providence active senior living community recently toured the station and couldn't believe what they found.

"We found the kitchen in total disarray.  The cabinets were broken, one of the women pulled open a drawer and the drawer fell out.  They claimed they don't use those drawers because the mice problem was so bad," Sidney Payne told Nashville's News 2.

Payne said the women rallied their friends and neighbors at Del Webb and decided to give the station a makeover.

"They are our first responders.  They are there the minute we need them and they live here 24/7, three days a week. So when we saw this place, we had no choice but to take action," explained Payne.

New cabinets were donated by Pulte Homes and volunteers are painting, installing new countertops, tile and furniture.

"This doesn't come along very often but this is a treat," said Lt. Eric Clinard with the Wilson County Fire Department.

Firefighters said the new look will bring pride to the station.

The work should be complete in a few weeks.
