NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A man is suspected of driving under the influence after crashing his SUV into a tree in a south Nashville neighborhood early Thursday morning.
The man was traveling west on Harding Place near Shadescrest Drive when he crossed all lanes of traffic, hit a mailbox, went through a front yard and into a second and then crashed into a large tree.
The impact of the mailbox that was hit damaged a pickup truck about 20 to 30 yards away.
Officials told Nashville's News 2 the driver appeared to be under the influence. He received a minor cut to his arm.
The passenger in the vehicle did not receive any injuries.
Police said the passenger got out of the vehicle while police were on the scene and relieved himself in front of the officers. He was arrested for public intoxication.
One lane of Harding Place was shutdown for about an hour while crews worked to remove the wreckage.
The SUV received extensive damage.
Upon impact, officials said the engine was pushed roughly two to three feet into the vehicle.
Police said the driver would be tested DUI.
