MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -
Siegel High School boys basketball coach Ben Dotson was arrested for DUI and refusing to take a blood alcohol test over the weekend in Murfreesboro.
According to the Daily News Journal, Dotson, 41, was the at-fault driver in a crash on Highway 231 North in front of the V.A. Golf Course late Saturday night.
The arresting officer reported that Dotson had slurred speech, red, watery eyes, was unsteady on his feet and had a "strong odor of an intoxicating beverage."
The paper reported Dotson was given three field sobriety tests and failed all of them.
In addition to DUI, Dotson is charged with violation of implied consent law for refusing to take a blood alcohol test during booking.
He was booked into the Rutherford County jail on a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
Dotson took over as head coach of the Siegel boys' basketball team in 2009 and has led the team to two state tournaments in three seasons.
