Murfreesboro gunshot victim airlifted to Vanderbilt

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

A Murfreesboro man was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment after he was injured in a shooting Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. in the 400 block of Forrest Street.

Witnesses told police a tan pickup truck, occupied by a female driver and two male passengers, was circling the area.

Witnesses also told police they then heard the driver yell, "Don't shoot," before hearing two shots fired.

According to the police report, the victim, identified as Ryan Newman, was located on Meadowbrook Road, several miles north of the scene.

He was taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center by ambulance before being airlifted to Vanderbilt.

His condition was not immediately known.

Authorities are continuing to search for the three persons of interest.
