Shoplifting suspect charged with assault on officers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A 21-year-old shoplifting suspect faces a laundry list of charges after he allegedly threatened a store clerk who accused him of shoplifting and assaulted two responding officers.

According to a police affidavit, the clerk at the Discount Tobacco Center on Jenkins Street suspected Centerius Bryant of shoplifting during the early morning hours Saturday and called police.

Officers responded to the scene and said Bryant refused their commands.

As officers tried to get him in custody, police said Bryant kicked and spat at one officer, and bit a second officer.

Both officers were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Bryant is charged with two counts of aggravated assault on an officer, two counts of assault, two counts of resisting arrest, vandalism and theft.

He was booked into the Davidson County jail on a $42,500 bond.
