NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
The heat is on and it's here to stay through at least next weekend when temperatures Friday and Saturday are expected to climb into the upper 90s to near 100-degrees.
For many families, extreme heat doesn't stop the fun in the sun.
On Saturday, kids played at Nashville's Cumberland Park near LP Field while parents took extra precautions.
"Definitely drinking lots of water and bringing sippy cups," mother Jessica Harlan told Nashville's News 2.
Dad Chason Harrell added, "We brought some water and some Gatorade so they can keep cool."
Rob Payne and his son came in from Franklin to enjoy the new park's sprinklers and climbing wall.
"It's our first time to this park," Payne said, "We love it here, playing in the water, climbing on the rock wall. It's real nice. Everybody's really nice and having a good time."
Wife Carey Payne added, "We really like it. We came purposely for the sprinklers. The kids wanted a new sprinkler place and we told them we found one at Cumberland Park and that's why we're here."
With more sweltering days in the forecast, drinking lots of fluids, staying in the shade and wearing sunscreen will be the name of the game.
Cumberland Park is open all weekend and admission is free.
