NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A driver was taken to the hospital after slamming his car into a utility pole in the Nashboro Village area early Thursday morning.

According to police, the driver fell asleep behind the wheel while driving along Murfreesboro Pike at British Woods Drive around 1 a.m.

The driver lost control of his vehicle, went into a ditch and struck a utility pole causing it to topple over.

The pole's power lines were intact following the wreck, though the pole needed to be restored.

Around 70 people in the area lost power following the incident.

NES crews were working Thursday morning to restore power and fix the pole.

A portion of the road was shutdown.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor cuts and bruises.

His injuries are not life-threatening.
