NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Firefighters responded to a blaze midday Tuesday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in west Nashville.
The VFW post provides the service of burning old American flags, which is what they were doing when the fire got away from them and caught a pavilion and the woods behind it on fire.
The fire chief told Nashville's News 2 they could see the smoke well before they arrived on the scene.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and prevent the main building from being damaged.
The pavilion, located behind the main building is destroyed, and most of the trees and brush behind the pavilion is scorched.
No one was injured.
The post is located at 7220 Charlotte Pike off Old Hickory Boulevard and Interstate 40.
