MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis firefighters found one person dead inside an apartment building that caught on fire.

Firefighters responded to the early Tuesday morning call of heavy smoke coming from a second floor window at the Carnes Manor Apartments.

WMC-TV in Memphis reported firefighters found the body of a young man inside, but fire officials did not immediately release his identity.

Neighbors said the victim was a student at the University of Memphis. Two units of the apartment building were damaged by the fire, which took about 20 minutes to extinguish.

The Red Cross has been called in to assist the residents affected by the fire. Fire officials were investigating the cause of the fire.
