AP member newspapers, broadcasters receive honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Greeneville Sun has won the most newspaper awards while WKRN-TV and WRCB-TV tied for the most TV trophies from Associated Press member groups.

WPLN and WOKI won the most radio awards at the Saturday presentation.

WKRN-TV in Nashville and WRCB-TV in Chattanooga each claimed nine first-place awards. WPLN radio in Nashville led the non-commercial division with eight wins and WOKI radio in the Knoxville market notched six first-place plaques.

The Greenville Sun claimed 13 top wins. Among the largest newspapers, The Commercial Appeal took home eight first-place trophies. The Shelbyville Times-Gazette led its division with nine wins, and The Jackson Sun received 11 top awards.

A new college broadcast contest brought top honors to Tennessee State University while Pellissippi State, Middle Tennessee State and Vanderbilt also took first-place awards.
