NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

On Saturday students from Holy Rosary Academy spent time sprucing up a memorial for a fallen Metro police officer.

Officer Christy Jo Dedman was killed in July 2004 while she was assisting a motorist with a flat tire along Interstate 40 near Hermitage when she was struck by a tractor-trailer.

Students added additional shrubs, mulch and rocks at Dedman's memorial located at the Hermitage precinct.

"Christy Dedman is a really good role model for both are boys and girls here at Holy Rosary Academy. This is a person who gave everything, even her life in order to protect us, the citizens here in Nashville and of Hermitage in particular," Principal Betty Reynolds said.

Home Depot donated many of the supplies used in the project.
