Armed man arrested after dispute with taxi driver

FRANKLIN, Tenn. -

A Franklin man, armed with a gun, was taken into police custody after getting in a dispute with a taxi driver earlier this week.

The incident involving 44-year-old Andrew Penland occurred around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to police, officers were called to the Carrington Hills apartment complex located in the 3700 block of Carothers Parkway after Penland refused to pay his cab fare.

Penland reported to police the driver of the cab was allegedly charging him more than he originally quoted.

Authorities said Penland refused to pay, even after faced with the possibility of arrest.

Responding officers determined Penland was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

During a search, police discovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun in his front pocket.  

He was taken into custody for theft of service, public intoxication and possession of a handgun while intoxicated.

Penland has since been released on a $3,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
