GALLATIN, Tenn. -

The wife of late Sumner County Sheriff Bob Barker has passed away after battling cancer.

Connie Barker died Thursday morning.

The 55-year-old was diagnosed with cancer weeks after her husband's death in 2010 after he courageously battled pancreatic cancer.

Barker is said to have served the Gallatin and Hendersonville communities by volunteering and serving on the boards of multiple agencies and non-profit organizations.

Last June, Sumner County named its new animal shelter after the late sheriff and his wife.

The Bob and Connie Barker Animal Control Facility is nearly 10,000 square feet and can house 70 dogs and dozens of cats.

The facility is located at Old Union School Road in Gallatin.

Barker's funeral is scheduled to be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Family Heritage Funeral Home in Gallatin.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Sunday from Noon until 2 p.m.
