NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
The Nashville Zoo welcomed a new baby female giraffe Sunday morning.
The mother giraffe, Margarita, gave birth to her second calf, Masai, around 6 a.m.
The zoo reported that both are doing well and are off exhibit at this time.
Mammal Curator Connie Phillip explained, "We look forward to showing the new calf to our guests soon."
Officials plan to monitor her development over the next several weeks and will make a decision regarding her public debut shortly after.
