Franklin man charged in Knoxville hit-and-run released on bond

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -

A 22-year-old Franklin man charged in a fatal hit-and-run in Knoxville last week was released on bond Friday morning.

According to WATE-TV, Curtis Harper, a University of Tennessee graduate, was released from the Knox County Detention Facility just after 11:30 a.m. on a $300,000.

Harper is accused of striking and killing Nelson Soto, 45, and Chasity Thornell, 24, early last Wednesday morning with his SUV.

Soto was attempting to help Thornell after she ran out of gas on Washington Pike. They both died at the scene.

Thornell's unborn child was also killed.

Harper faces three counts of vehicular homicide, three counts of vehicular homicide by intoxication, driving under the influence, tampering with evidence, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and DUI second offense.

Harper was previously convicted of driving under the influence in 2009 in North Carolina.
