NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

More than 160 people were treated by Vanderbilt University Medical Center staff on the first day of the CMA Music Festival.  While some were from falls, most were because of the heat.

The official high temperature on Thursday was 82 degrees at Nashville International Airport.

"It wasn't as hot [as last year], but there weren't many clouds and it may have deceived people," Dr. Jared McKinney, director of Vanderbilt LifeFlight Event Medicine, told The Tennessean.  "It was busier then we thought based on the temperature.''

Five patients were transported to the hospital.

Last year, more than 25 people had to be transported to hospitals during the four-day festival.

Temperatures were expected to reach 86 degrees in Nashville Friday and 88 degrees on Saturday.

A code orange air quality alert was also in effect Friday.

"A lot of it is staying ahead of the game. Wear light clothing, make sure you put on a lot of sunscreen and stay hydrated," Dr. McKinney said.  "If you're going be sitting out in the sun listening to concerts for a long time [make sure to] take some drinks with you."

Vanderbilt will have more than 20 EMTs, paramedics, nurses and athletic trainers on hand each day of the festival to treat and respond to medical emergencies.

Cooling stations are also available at select locations.
