CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Rescuers say the nature of the terrain where a teen fell off of Signal Mountain helped save him from more serious injuries.
Seventeen-year-old Mark Bush of Silverdale Baptist Academy fell over a bluff Wednesday morning while helping with landscaping. He was rescued Wednesday afternoon and found to be suffering from a possible broken arm and a head injury.
Amy Maxwell of Hamilton County Emergency Services said the youth fell about 50 feet and rolled about 250 feet more. The boy was not wearing a safety belt.
Rescuers said the heavy brush cushioned his fall. The section where he fell goes from a gradual slope to a vertical drop and back to a gradual slope.
He was taken to Erlanger Medical Center.
