NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Country artist Darius Rucker performed at a benefit concert for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Monday night.
"St. Jude is a great institution," Rucker said. "I went to visit there with [country singer] Dierks Bentley a few years back."
The event was held at the Wildhorse Saloon in downtown Nashville.
Rodney Adkins, Chuck Wicks, and Sunny Sweeney among others also took to the stage.
Sweeney told Nashville's News 2 it was especially important for her to perform at the benefit concert since her cousin was a patient at St. Jude.
"She was there for close to two years and she has brittle bone disease and they allowed her to live as normal of a life as possible, which is amazing," she explained.
All of the proceeds raised at the concert go directly to St. Jude in an effort to continue researching and caring for children.
"I'm just glad that playing a show can raise the kind of money that we raise for good causes so it feels good but it's what I'm supposed to do," Rucker said.
Sweeney added, "If you have something that you can give back to somebody, whether it's time or money, that always makes you feel good. Plus, Darius asked me to be here, I can't ever say no to that."
Around 1,000 people attended Monday night's sold out show.
