NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
The Metro Action Commission will begin serving breakfast and lunch meals to Davidson County school children Monday.
Thousands of children take advantage of Metro's summer food service program.
The initiative provides meals at over 100 sites in Davidson County.
Lisa McCrady with the Metro Action Commission said, "There is about 80% of our school aged population that receives free and reduced lunch in Davidson County."
The program is set up in communities where at least 50% of the population qualifies for free and reduced meals during the school year.
On average 4,000 meals are served every day during the summer months.
"The children do not have to qualify. They don't have to sign anything. We don't even ask who they are, but based upon their age, they qualify," said McCrady.
The summer food program begins Monday, June 4 and continues through July 27.
The Metro Action Commission will post a list of meals sites on their Web site Monday.
