MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -
A man shot and killed himself following a nearly one-hour standoff near the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro Wednesday afternoon.
Murfreesboro police spokesperson Kyle Evans told The Tennessean police attempted to make entry into the man's Greenland Drive residence around 1 p.m.
The home is located across the street from Campus Villas.
Evans said their last communication with the man was an hour earlier, around Noon, as they first began to set up a perimeter around his home.
The man had told family members through social media that he had taken an overdose of an unknown medication in the attempt to kill himself.
The man's identity was not immediately released although police say he was wanted by police in Smyrna on domestic violence charges.
