Police: Man sets fire to house after wife asks for divorce

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -
A Clarksville man set fire to his house after his wife told him she wanted a divorce and moved out, according to a news release Wednesday.
Clarksville officers found Chad Kirby drunk and passed out at a friend's home after finding his home on Richview Place on fire Tuesday evening.
Initial reports had indicted Kirby was barricaded inside the home with a can of gasoline.
Further investigation revealed Kirby's wife told him she wanted a divorce and moved out so he poured an accelerant in several rooms and ignited it, causing severe damage to the master bedroom and kitchen area.
Furthermore, he trashed the house by breaking several items inside, police said.
The home suffered extensive smoke and property damages estimated at $40,000.
Kirby, 36, was charged with arson and booked into the Montgomery County jail on a $50,000 bond.
