An alert fisherman rescued five boaters from Old Hickory Lake after their boat sank Saturday night, said officials.
The boat was traveling near Old Hickory Beach downstream from Grates Creek around 11:30 p.m. when it struck a navigation buoy, and started to fill with water.
The fisherman heard the boaters shouting for help, and rushed over to take them to shore.
He then went back to drag to boat out of the water to keep other boaters from hitting the hazard.
The investigating is ongoing as the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency looks into the incident.
