Mars Petcare breaks ground on new facility

THOMPSON'S STATION, Tenn. -

Mars Petcare broke ground on its new Mid-State facility and corporate headquarter on Tuesday morning.

The $89.7 million facility will be located near Highway 840 in Williamson County.

The first phase of the project is said to include a new regional innovation center in Thompson Station where new pet recipes will be designed and tested.

Mars Petcare U.S. is the U.S. operations of the world's largest petcare company and makes several well-known pet food brands including Pedigree and Whiskas.

The facility is expected to employ around 144 employees and be complete in 2013.
