Jason Smith has been on paid leave since the end of February.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A Stratford High School teacher and football coach at the school is on administrative amid allegations he had an inappropriate relationship with a female student.
Jason Smith, an AVID Leadership teacher at Stratford, was placed on paid leave on February 28 pending the outcome of an investigation by Metro police and the Tennessee Department of Children's Services.
"It's ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous," Destiny Bailey, who has a niece at the school said. "I think they need to really look at what the teachers are doing and be more hands on with them, but I didn't know about this."
Metro School officials said Smith has been the AVID Leadership teacher at Stratford High School since 2008.
The 35-year-old teacher is still listed on the schools' Web site as their head football coach however the Nashville City Paper published an article last November that reported he resigned.
Smith has been with the Metro school district since 2001.
