Trial date set for mother charged with killing newborns

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. -

A Sumner County woman accused of killing her newborn twins will go on trial next March.

Lindsey Lowe made headlines last September after the 25-year-old suffocated the babies in the bathroom of her parents' Hendersonville home.

Her father later discovered one of the dead newborns in a laundry basket in Lowe's bedroom.

The young mother admitted to detectives she suffocated the boys immediately after giving birth because she had hid the pregnancy from her family.

"She said the child was crying and at that point, she didn't want anyone to hear it so she covered its mouth essentially killing the child," Detective Steve Malach previously testified.

It was later revealed that a Kentucky man was the father of the babies and not Lowe's fiancé.

The case outraged moms and garnered national attention.

In a settlement hearing Thursday morning the judge set Lowe's trial date for March 11, 2013.  The judge said he's allotting two weeks for the proceedings.

Lowe faces two counts of felony first degree murder, two counts of pre-meditated first degree murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse.

She is out of jail on bond and staying with family while undergoing medical evaluations.
