COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -
A fire that broke out in a tractor trailer's engine on Interstate 40 East near Cookeville is said to have caused around $100,000 in damages.
According to a report in the Herald Citizen, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at mile marker 297.
Authorities said the 2008 Volvo truck and one of the double trailers it was pulling and store merchandise were all destroyed in the blaze.
Truck driver, John Turner Calhoun Jr. said he was traveling to Dandridge, Tennessee from La Vergne when he noticed smoke coming from the truck's cab.
"He pulled over and went for his fire extinguisher, but it was too late, the fire was spreading fast," Fire Chief Daryl Blair told the newspaper.
Firefighters from nearby Monterey were called to assist with the blaze when the fire spread to the grass on the side of the roadway.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
