WHITE BLUFF, Tenn. -

The Dickson County Sheriff's Office arrested a landlord in White Bluff Wednesday night for shooting his tenant during an apparent argument.

Dickson County Sheriff's Office Capt. Randy Starkey said deputies were dispatched to a home located at 1334 Old Charlotte Road around 9 p.m. after a caller reported his landlord was threatening him.

Before deputies arrived Warren Michael Garris, 52, called 911 again to tell them he had been shot by his landlord.

Deputies arrived on the scene and found Garris in a room in the basement where he lived.

He was shot multiple times. Garris had been renting his room from David Clark for a few months according to neighbors.

Clark, 64, was still at the property and taken into custody.

The sheriff's office said the victim was alert and identified Clark as the shooter.

Garris was treated at the scene and later transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was listed in fair and stable condition on Thursday.

Clark did admit to shooting the victim although the exact cause of the shooting remained under investigation.

"My mom was really scared we were kind of freaking out because we knew them people," neighbor Kendall Bell said.

Bell and her sister said Clark was always a friendly and helpful neighbor.

"He is a really nice guy from what we knew," Bell said. "He would come over and cut the grass because we don't have a mower."

Bell's sister Kaitlyn said the shooting was shocking in the typically quiet neighborhood.

"Nothing really happens. It is a good little town," she said.

Another neighbor who did not want to speak on camera also said Clark with always friendly.

People arriving at Clark's home Thursday afternoon did not comment on the shooting.

Clark was charged with attempted second degree murder and booked into the Dickson County jail on a $75,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court next Friday.
